EGIS TEAM ENGAGES IN GREEN RECOVERY AND RECONSTRUCTION OF UKRAINE DIALOGUE AT INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT FORUM IN LEIPZIG
This year, on May 22, our team participated in the official side event "Planning for a Green Recovery and Reconstruction of Ukraine", which emphasized the crucial role of transport planning in the reconstruction and recovery of Ukraine.
The objective of this event was to discuss how transport modeling can be used in Ukraine for the restoration process with principles better than before and to shed light on the planning, institutional, coordination and other elements and requirements of such a complicated reconstruction exercise. Egis is already implementing several reconstruction projects in Ukraine and plans to further expand its contribution and share its global expertise in the upcoming recovery process.
The side event "Planning for a Green Recovery and Reconstruction of Ukraine" was organized by the European Commission and the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine within the EU-funded project "Assistance to the Ukrainian Authorities for Establishment of National Transport Model and Master Plan", which will serve as a tool to support investment and transport planning in the transport sector of Ukraine by allowing the effects and impacts of various transport policy measures to be evaluated.
During the panel discussion, the speakers addressed the following topics:
- Long-term planning and support for the reconstruction of the transport sector in Ukraine
- The importance of transport modeling and planning in the recovery and restoration efforts
- Cooperation and the role of neighboring countries and IFIs in the recovery and reconstruction
The panel was moderated by Dr. Adnan Rahman, Team Leader of the EU-financed project, "Assistance to the Ukrainian Authorities for Establishment of National Transport Model and Master Plan" and the panelists for this session included:
- Mr. Serhiy Derkach, Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine;
- Mr. Arun Thangaraj, Deputy Minister of Transport for Canada;
- Ms. Magda Kopczynska, Director-General for Mobility and Transport (DG-MOVE, European Commission);
- Mr. Robert de Groot, Vice President, European Investment Bank;
- Mr. Mircea Păscăluță, State Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Moldova;
- Ms. Nataliya Forsyuk, Strategic advisor on Ukraine and Europe; Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine 2019-2021;
- Mr. Shomik Raj Mehndiratta, Practice Manager for Transport in Europe and Central Asia, World Bank.
The annual International Transport Forum in Leipzig brings together policymakers and experts to discuss pressing transport issues and set the global transport policy agenda. The forum attracts many high-ranking officials, financial institutions, and other key players in transport development, making it a valuable platform to join.
